The Admissions Policy has been formally adopted by the governing body who is the Admissions Authority and is responsible for determining the school’s admissions policy.

The admissions authority has set its Published Admission Number (PAN) at 28 pupils to be admitted to reception, in the school year beginning in the September following a child’s 4th birthday.

Policies and documents in relation to admissions can all be found on our policies page linked below.

How and when to apply

Applications must be made online on the schools admissions page  on the Local Authority Common Application Form. All forms must be returned by the closing date set by Durham County Council.

Nursery Provision

Our brand new nursery for 3 and 4 year olds is due to open on 9th September 2024. Although the nursery is not ready yet, parents are more than welcome to contact the school to arrange a visit to meet staff and experience our warm and welcoming environment. More information about the process of acquiring a nursery place can be found in our Nursery Admissions Policy. To apply for a place, please use the application form below then send it to stme@stme.bwcet.com. If you would prefer a paper copy, this can be collected from and returned to the school office. If you have any further questions, please do not hesitate to contact us.

In-Year applications

Applications are welcome for all year groups during the school year. If you would like to transfer your child from another school, please inform their current school that this is your intention and request a school transfer form. Please contact the school office to inform us that you would like to request a place for your child. Once the school transfer form has been received, parents will be notified if there is place available and transition details will be discussed.

Applying if your child has an Education, Health and Care plan

Children and young people with an Education, Health and Care Plan (or Statement of Special Education Needs) follow a different admission and transfer process for a new school.  Please continue to complete Durham County Council’s parental preference form, as part of the admission process to a new school.  You continue to have a right to request a particular school and this will be considered alongside the information that we have about your child’s special educational needs.  The information would have been provided as part of the Education, Health and Care assessment or following the review meeting.

St Michael’s Catholic Primary School prides itself in being very inclusive and will endeavour to support every child

If you would like to discuss your SEND requirements in detail please contact the school to arrange an appointment and we would be delighted to meet you.
